Khaki Quilt?

Eric has two pairs of khaki pants that have started to get worn so he isn't wearing them anymore. I had an interesting idea to make a quilt out of the pants. I also asked him if he had any of his old work shirts that he can't wear anymore. Because I think it would be interesting to make a quilt from his old khaki pants and his old work shirts.

I have no clue whether a khaki quilt would be tough to quilt or not. Or whether I should just sew together squares of khaki and then just sew a back to it and not put any batting in the middle or just do like a vertical line, horizontal line, maybe the diagonal lines and leave it at that.

Or maybe I can just make a small khaki quilt.

I think it's a great idea - especially if you put in some work shirts or some plaids from goodwill. It will probably be tough to work with - espeically if the fabrics are different weights, but if you quilt it with straight lines, that should be easy enough! I say use a little batting. Old clothes, etc., were how people used to make their utility quilts! Sometimes we get so caught up in buying new fabric these days! I think I remember one of the Gee's Bend quilts was made from all old work clothes. Good luck!

It sounds like a great idea to me. I don't know how khakhi would quilt, I wouldn't think it would be too hard without batting. If you don't want to quilt, you could make a shaggy quilt.

Khakhi and old work shirts will be great together. I made a quilt for each of my boys with jeans and flannel shirt that were theirs. I also used their dads, mine and additional store purchased flannel. I sew the 6 inches squares with a raw edge without batting. The middle is cotton with flannel on the back. Here is a link to the photos. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/551627668ikbMOY
