I spent what felt like forever sewing these strips together to make a 9 patch block. When I got done I thought the middle stripped looked too narrow for what I figured it should measure. 1 inch strip....two strips sewn to it, one on each side, 1/4 seam allowance. Should measure 1/2 inch in the middle strip right? Nope...mine only measures 1/4!
And then I laid down the whole strip and measured the middle strip and it looked like it was only cut 3/4 of an inch. No clue how cause the rest of my strips are 1 inch!

Hi Andrea, wanted to pop over and thank you again for all your hard work and effort...that was exactly what was wrong. Not sure what was there when I started(something Bonnie has listed for me I think) and I just backspaced it out and put in my blogs to link to. I've had the spaces ever since and no one could tell me why..you are amazing!
And yes, before I forget...Alex looks soooo grown up with the new hair cut....a handsome boy!!
I think you will be doing some nail biting and teeth knashing with quilting. Just not as exacting as mathematics, but still in need of measured precision.
Your presser foot might be wider than 1/4th... a good place to start.
The weird 2 3/8th...I'd have to know more about what you were making..not quite enough information to form an opinion.
The lining up looks really good. I usually try to size each small square to the correct size and still leave the 1/4" without cutting off the triangle point of that center square. A pin through that corner point matched up with the one above and then eased back to see where the join is also works.
Quilting the overall top...what about diagonals?? I could see a row of stitching running above and below the line the squares make, both directions. Enough quilting but not too much.
If there is anything I can help with, please feel free to email...I also have IM with MSN messsenger using the same email addy. Sewing are looks great!! Hugs, Finn
